Bishop Joseph Tyson is in the Chicago area for a Pre-Lenten Mission at St. Anne’s Catholic Community in Barrington. Over the next two evenings (beginning at 5 p.m. PST each evening) he will help deepen the parish’s understanding of the Synodal process as parishioners prepare to engage in listening and discussion sessions. With the backdrop of Luke’s gospel of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, Bishop Tyson will help us understand the “synodal journey” that Pope Francis has called each of us to make.
On Monday night, he will reflect on the three pathways to being Church in this, the Third Millennium: to live in communion, to achieve participation, and to be on mission. His hope is to inspire us “to dream about the Church we are called to be…”
On Tuesday evening Bishop Tyson will unpack the synod questions asked of each of us by the Pope. He will explain how we might open ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit as we address them individually and then how we might engage in conversations with one another in a parish dialogue. His challenge is to have us “weave new and deeper relationships and learn from one another.”
