Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J.: A Case for the Inalienable Rights of the Pre-Born
Many Americans assume of the legitimacy of abortion based on the reasoning of the Roe v. Wade decision. What they don’t realize is that the decision was based on two major fallacies, and it was restricted to constitutional rights of the unborn—not their inalienable rights. Inalienable rights belong to every human being by their very nature, and do not require constitutional or governmental sanction to exist. Just as the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness over rode the legal claims of the British Government to rule its colonies so also the inalienable right to life overrides any legal claim to deprive any innocent human being of that right. Fr. Spitzer will explain how the failure to distinguish inalienable rights from constitutional rights led not only to the injustice in the Roe v. Wade decision but also to the enslavement of hundreds of thousands of innocent people by unanimous supreme court fiat in Dred Scott v. Sandford. He will then demonstrate the inalienable right to life of the pre-born.
