In response to the wave of violence that unfolded in our nation’s capital today, Yakima Bishop Joseph Tyson has asked that special prayers be offered each day for the next nine days for a restoration of peace and calm. Parishes have been asked to insert the following petitions, in English and Spanish, should be included at each Mass:

- That through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, patroness of our country and patroness of the Americas, peace and tranquility may reign in our nation’s capital and unity may flourish across our country.
- Que por la intercesión de la Santísima Virgen María, patrona de nuestro país y patrona de las Américas, que la paz y la tranquilidad reine en la capital de nuestra nación y que la unidad florezca en todo nuestro país.
The Bishop also is inviting parishioners to join him in prayer using the attached Novena for Faithful Citizenship.
“Know that many of our bishops from across the Pacific Northwest are gathered together for our annual retreat. We not only are remembering you in our prayers. But we also will be remembering the many needs of our country,” Bishop Tyson said.
