Bishop Joseph Tyson is very grateful for the pastoral sensitivity being shown by pastors, parochial vicars and deacons in granting dispensations from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass this weekend due to the inclement weather. Because blizzard conditions are forecast to persist widely throughout the Diocese through Sunday morning, the Bishop is giving to all Catholics in the Diocese a dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass tomorrow. The dispensation includes the obligation to spend some time in private prayer. The following link has prayers for protection during storms: Prayers in Times of Bad Weather. Another possibility, given that tomorrow is World Marriage Sunday, would be to pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary, and in particular to pray for married couples during the second mystery, the Wedding at Cana.
Let’s continue to pray for the safety of all travelers, for the homeless and those without adequate shelter, and those working to keep our roadways safe.
