Mark your calendars for Monday June 3rd at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wenatchee as Karlo Broussard, founder and president of The Divine Child Institute for Catechetical Renewal, Inc. will be giving a presentation entitled “Bringing Down the Walls of Atheism.” In this talk, Mr. Broussard goes head to head with the modern atheistic worldview, proving it to be a contradiction by its very nature and consequently insufficient for making sense out of human existence. By way of contrast, He provides the reasonable evidence for the theistic worldview by giving proofs for God’s existence. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how to reclaim sanity for the modern mind. The talk begins at 6 pm in Kuykendall Hall at St. Joseph Parish, Wenatchee, WA.

May is Local Parish Stewardship Month

Dear Fathers,
The month of May is Local Parish Stewardship Month. May is an opportunity to ask all parishioners to take some time in the days and weeks ahead to reflect on the following question: “Lord, what do You want me to do with all the gifts You have given me?”
When many of us hear the word “stewardship” we often think it is all about money. That is not the case. Stewardship is all about doing what God wants us to do with the gifts He has given us. The challenge is that we cannot know what God wants from us unless we spend time every day communicating with God.

The Diocese of Yakima, in partnership with The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), will be observing National Missing Children’s Day this year by taking part in the national Take 25 child safety campaign.
During the month of May, the six Catholic elementary and middle schools in the Diocese will be offering safety education provided by the NCMEC to students at all grades levels. La Salle High School, in a coordinated effort, will offer a lesson in internet safety to all students. Many parish religious education programs will be offering the same lessons as well. Students in grades K-8 will take safety information home to their parents for further discussion.

May 25 has been observed as National Missing Children’s Day since it was first recognized in 1983. National Missing Children’s Day serves as an annual reminder that there are thousands of children who are still missing and stresses the importance of making child protection a national priority.
The Take 25 campaign is a national child safety public awareness campaign created in 2007 by NCMEC. The campaign encourages parents to take 25 minutes to talk to their children about safety and ways to prevent abduction. The campaign begins on May 1 and continues through May 25 every year in communities throughout the country.

“Every day we hear stories about children who escaped a would-be-abductor because someone talked to them about what they should do in that type of situation,” said CEO John Ryan of NCMEC. “Education and open communication are key to keeping children safer. Take 25 minutes and talk to your child.”
“As Bishop of Yakima, I am committed that our schools and parishes provide safe environments for everyone, especially our children, youth and vulnerable adults,” said Bishop Joseph Tyson. “Take 25 is an excellent supplement to our existing programs.”
